Elantra GT completely surrounds you and your passengers with a wide range of features that automatically look out for you. From cameras to ultrasonic sensors to radars, our sophisticated network acts as extra sets of eyes when you drive or park. You’ll know it as peace of mind. We call it Hyundai SmartSense. The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is as smart as it is stylish with a fresh new look and features such as energy-saving LED headlights. Learn more at Hyundai USA. The Elantra Blue comes with the same 138-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that powers the rest of the model line, but with a number of small changes engineers have improved fuel economy by 2 mpg, to 26 mpg city, 35 highway with the standard 5-speed manual transmission.
This week, Hyundai announced all the changes it'll be making for the 2020 model year. While there are the usual shuffles -- some new paint colors here, some now-standard options there -- what caught our attention was Hyundai's decision to continue phasing out manual transmissions in its lineup.
Hyundai this week announced that its six-speed manual transmission will no longer be offered on Elantra and Veloster Turbo models. We'd learned about the Elantra's lack of a manual earlier this year when Hyundai announced 2020 Elantra pricing. The base SE and Sport trims used to be available with a manual, but now, the SE gets a continuously variable transmission and the Sport uses the same dual-clutch setup as the Eco trim.
That doesn't mean you can't find an Elantra with a stick -- you just have to look at another Elantra variant. The 2020 Hyundai Elantra GT five-door hatchback still offers a six-speed manual on the zippier N-Line trim, and it likely will until the hatch receives a redesign along the same lines as the sedan.
While the stick has been wiped clear from the entire Elantra sedan lineup, it's still available on the base trim of Veloster Turbo, with only the Turbo Ultimate trim losing its manual. This means Veloster Turbo buyers aiming for a manual transmission will lose out on some additional features, like leather seats, embedded navigation, HD Radio compatibility and a head-up display. Both trims still provide for an excellent drive, but clearly buyers weren't too interested in ramping up the options while retaining the manual transmission.
Thankfully, there's an even better way to slap a stick into the Veloster. The Hyundai Veloster N Mac file archiver. is one hell of a hot hatch, providing the same kind of smile-goading performance as its competitors, but with a serious price advantage. So while there may be fewer ways to enjoy a Hyundai with a manual transmission, the cars that still pack it are well worth your time.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Hyundai Elantra 1
While entertaining my girlfriends sister and family, my 2005 Hyundai Elantra suddenly stopped running, and locked in second gear. It had been losing power regularly, and Hyundai said there was nothing they could do about it, as they did not see anything wrong. The car would rev extremely hard while in second and third gear, but it would not move any faster. After it locked up, it was towed by aaa to a dealership, because Hyundai improperly told my girlfriend that my roadside assistance was invalid ( it was not). The car had 26,000 miles on it at the time. After the dealership looked at it, the said that the clutch pad had burned up, which, had fused the gear box, and caused the car to lock up. They stated that the clutch pad was not covered under there warranty, as the damage was a result of 'riding the clutch' I have been driving manual transmissions for 34 years, and have never ridden the clutch. After numerous complaints to Hyundai, both to the dealership and to Hyundai USA, I was told that I was responsible for the repair costs. To the tune of $3500. 00!!! they had my car for over 2 weeks, and refused to give me a loner, saying since it was not a warranty issue , they were not required to give me one. This was after Hyundai USA had told me specifically that the clutch pad was under warranty and that I would get a loner while it was repaired. I was unable to get to work for over a week, which cost me a significant financial problem, not to mention having to pay $3,500. 00 out of my pocket. This is a defective transmission, as I know 4 other people who have had exactly the same issue with their cars, and in all cases all Hyundai would do was say they were riding the clutch, and make them pay for repairs. An outside mechanic said he had talked to a Hyundai mechanic, and was told Hyundai knew about the problem, and had failed to notify owners of it, that they had refused to replace any transmissions and in fact they had changed their warranty enough to make it vague.
